Critics reviews

If all this sounds terribly familiar, then that’s not much of surprise. Peter Chan’s stylish, absorbing film is essentially a kung-fu remake of A History of Violence, even going as far as to hijack some of the exact same story beats as the Cronenberg original. Yet on its own terms, the film remains a stirring blend of fierce combat and detective fiction that elegantly tackles big themes such the nature of honour and identity while hitting exhilarating action notes.
