Amiable, but pretty mediocre comedy barely keeps afloat based on the like-ability of its cast, particularly the inimitable Rodney Dangerfield. But the loose plot is sloppy and it's light on any real laughs, leaving it with nothing but a few modestly amusing moments that are somewhat pleasant to sit through. Instantly forgettable.
2 1/2 out of 5 stars. Rodney Dangerfield's personality almost entirely carries Easy Money. Not to say the rest of the cast isn't decent, they're just not given much to work with. For the most part Easy Money feels like it was either put together hastily or incompetently. The story takes too long to get going and the Jennifer Jason Leigh storyline went on too long. Ultimately, Dangerfield made it sort of worth it.
Dangerfield is the only reason to see this mess. Awful title song from Joel as well. Pesci feels so out of place, it seems insane that the same man who struggles with comedy here would handle it so well a few years later in Home Alone. The jokes probably seemed just as stale on release day. Avoid.
