No one is more surprised than me that "Encino Man" has aged into a crisply shot, solidly paced Nineties comedy with a genuinely positive message about prizing friendship and individuality over the shallow and short-lived pleasures of high school popularity. The scene where Pauly Shore takes Brendan Fraser to 7-11 ("SweeTarts. These are killer, buddy. So citrusy, you'll freak.") is two minutes of comic brilliance.
