You cannot make a list of sci-fi flicks and not include Enemy Mine. You can put it in the best or in the worst. You might find it inspiring or lame. Beautiful or corny. Epic or boring. But do not dare ignore it. In 1985 we did not have Mr. Blomkamp and his District 9. This was our 80's metaphor for racism and overcoming racism. It could represent the 80's in a sci-fi cycle about the XX century seen through movies.
Strange movie. There's of course the religious aspect of the film with Davidge's Christian dimension that reaches its climax with his resurrection but there's also a very childish aspect in 'Enemy Mine' including tearful dialogues and a totally flawed ending. Personally, I appreciated the homage to the sci-fi movies of the 50's and Jerry's laugh. Beware the improbable lightings of the 80's. Recommended though.
The special effects are top notch but this is a great script and cast that focuses on trusting your enemy and learning their ways and culture to understand and communicate. The 3rd act is a little hokey.
