You cannot make a list of sci-fi flicks and not include Enemy Mine. You can put it in the best or in the worst. You might find it inspiring or lame. Beautiful or corny. Epic or boring. But do not dare ignore it. In 1985 we did not have Mr. Blomkamp and his District 9. This was our 80's metaphor for racism and overcoming racism. It could represent the 80's in a sci-fi cycle about the XX century seen through movies.
visually wonderful in every moment ranging from the colors, effects, masks, everything!
on the other hand here we have this interaction of the human, white, american representation of culture (:shrugs:) and the black...oh, sorry, drac savage... could be i'm trippin', but this was screaming at me and produced a kind of i'm-gonna-puke effect.
The special effects are top notch but this is a great script and cast that focuses on trusting your enemy and learning their ways and culture to understand and communicate. The 3rd act is a little hokey.
