Synopsis

A wildlife volunteer researcher lives and works alone on a desolate island off the Cornish coast to observe a rare flower. As the days pass and loneliness sets in, her observations take a dark turn into the strange, causing her to doubt her own mind. Is the landscape not only alive but sentient?

Our take

In his eagerly-awaited follow-up to Bait, visionary Cornish director Mark Jenkin is back with a chimeric, ’70s-set folk horror that morphs into a mesmerizing portrait of solitude and grief. Spirits stalk the ancient landscape, which is rendered eerily alive through the flickering 16mm film stock.
