Our take

Is there a better anti-hero than a debauched detective? This adaptation from the best-selling novel by Irvine Welsh, the notorious Scottish writer of Trainspotting, is restless, dark, and witty. James McAvoy is magnificently disturbing as he pushes the limits of this abusive character.
