Tarantino and Rodriguez use horror and western tropes liberally on the pretense that they're smart by doing so. But they don't go beyond kitschy employment and fail even to craft a whole out of this; creating a film of disjointed scenes, intentions, and no emotional depth. The only thing it's clear about is making Tarantino's perverted character as cool as possible. I mean, it's Tarantino. He must be cool, right?
I waited this long to watch Rodrigue's vampire exploitation. And I have to confess - it has every element I thought it would have: gory scenes, tacky design costumes, over the top performances and crazy-sexy-coocoo vampire strippers. The make up design is as bad as I'd love it to be. Pure entertainment.
The last third of the movie gets a little bit weak but the rest is full of great filmmaking. I always appreciated Salma Hayek's erotic dance to Tito & Tarantula's "After Dark" and Quentin Tarantino's crazy performance as Ritchie.
"All right, pussy, pussy, pussy! We got white pussy, black pussy, Spanish pussy, yellow pussy, we got hot pussy, cold pussy, we got wet pussy, we got smelly pussy, we got hairy pussy, bloody pussy, we got snappin' pussy, we got silk pussy, velvet pussy, nalga high pussy, we even got horse pussy, dog pussy, chicken pussy!" -Chet Pussy
Sure, "directed" by Robert Rodriguez. It's clear that Tarantino had his germs on the directing of this film. Everyone who has seen two Tarantino movies can spot that. Wonderfully trashy. I really enjoyed it. I actually didn't knew this was a vampire movie and I did not see it coming. Great acting, also.
