Gangs of Wasseypur: Part I
450 Ratings

Seventy years in the lives—and spectacular deaths—of two mafia-like families fighting for control of the coal-mining town of Wasseypur, India. Three generations of gangsters continue the legacy of their legendary forefather Shahid Khan, while clashing with the powerful clan of Ramadhir Singh.

Our take

Indian director Anurag Kashyap’s two-part gangster epic left us stunned at its premiere in the Cannes’ Directors’ Fortnight: equal parts Battles without Honor and Humanity and low-key Martin Scorsese, whose long-time editor, Thelma Schoonmaker edited Kashyap’s latest film. Part 2 to come!
