Fifth entry in the long running Godzilla series features the first appearance of Rodan to the series as well as introducing the saga's most memorable villainous creation...King Ghidorah. As usual the cutaways to the human story take away from the monster mash and the film ends abruptly with no real resolution but its still some how solid entertainment. 'I didn't study monster language'
I don't know if cultural differences can be blamed for the ongoing ridiculousness in Ghidorrah (as well as the offshoots from the original Godzilla) but in spite of this its (and they're) still entertaining.
The set-up story with the humans was ridiculous with its immense ensemble cast. The princess, the reporter, the cop, the geologist, the criminals. It's like Ishiro Honda is getting all The Wire on us. But all that is pretty much swept aside when Godzilla shows up. Also, what is up with the still for this movie?
They just keep getting better as I go through this series... and still, about 25 or so to go. *faint* This was just what I expected from a Gojira film, and then some. The Venusian princess, the mobsters, the space monster that truly felt threatening for once, and teamwork of monsters. And of course the return of those miniature infant island women. This was great.
