It's always interesting to see movies based on true story or based on the biography even though when it comes to Hollywood all of that will only based on little fact. Girl With A Pearl Earring feels like an Art movie with the touch of romance. And it is indeed a "cinematic painting". Art is always more fun with an intriguing story behind it.
Never heard of this dutch painter Johannes Vermeer and his famous work who gave the name of this movie. I was into this just for Scarlett Johansson. Her resemblance with that girl inside the painting is kinda perfect.
The movie doesn't act like a biography movie and doesn't give much about Vermeer. Instead the action focus more on Johansson's character (too much).
Such movies are sources of new informations.
The good thing with such films is that they allow the audience to get away from their historic weight and connect with the human experience behind them. Whether Tracy Chevalier's novel is a fictional account of Vermeer's life doesn't really matter, as any retelling of any true event becomes fiction.
Scarlett Johansson's ressemblance to the girl on the painting is uncanny.
Scarlett Johansson look almost like she was the design for one of the most iconic and famous paintings of all time makes this biographic movie feel right most of the time, but there is not enough drama and oomph as the movie settles for the safest plot and tensions throughout the movie as the most drama is from the jealous painter's daughter who clearly wants to painted herself.
Muy buena pelicula. La ilusion de similitud con el cuadro esta muy bien lograda, gracias a la fotografia. La tension se mantiene durante todo el momento. Las actuaciones tienen sus bemoles. El vestuario es muy bueno.
