like "The Day The Earth Stood Still" meets "Lord of the Flies" with more face-splitting and extraterrestrial vampire jizz monsters, which I guess is a long way of saying it's way better than either of those movies
Very fun 60s Japanese creature feature complete with cheesy special effects, over the top acting, and ridiculous plot twist after ridiculous plot twist. Fast-paced with bomb threats, political assassination, plane hijacking, UFOs, mind control, space vampires and alien blobs all thrown in the mix.
As inventive as it is over the top at times, Goke, Bodysnatcher From Hell sits very nicely alongside other mad fare as Jigoku as one of the craziest Japanese films to come out of the 60's. An apocalyptic fever dream of Bava, Hitchcock, and Serling, Goke is a genre fan's wet dream. Nothing necessarily groundbreaking, but Hajime Satô puts every yen on-screen for what it's worth.
Like NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD, it's not a subtle film (the acting especially), but the design, effects and plot combine to give it the unsettling nature of a fever dream, building to an ahead-of-its-time nihilistic ending.
