The movie itself is half baked, but parts of it are funny as hell when you're or if you've ever been ... half baked. Before Chapelle was a household name and before Guillermo Diaz became "oh yah, that's that guy from..."
The definition of a guilty pleasure. I saw this when I was 10, before I had any idea what weed was, and thought it was hilarious. For a stoner comedy, that says a lot about the humor and zest this film exudes. The cast is great, the cameos are even better. Half Baked is one of the best stoner comedies of all time and one of the best comedies of the 90's. It's a highly underappreciated as a pop-cultural influencer.
It was my favorite film when I was 11. I don't think I even knew what getting high meant or what weed was. Also the bootlegged Russian videotape had 'pothead' translated as 'teapot'. Still, it felt like something was so very right about this movie: this is how I discovered what awesomeness feels like. And that I had a massive crush on Jeaneane Garofalo that would only grow further.
