Here Comes the Devil is a smart horror film that negates these brains from its opening onward due to its tendency to insert trashy and cheap exploitation horror and sex scenes into its character drama. This hard balance can be effective (2006's The Lost is a great example, mainly due to its lively humor and energy) but here it cheapens what would be a meaningful and effective, and quite disturbing, horror film.
Effective horror chiller that relies on tension, atmosphere and performance instead of cheap effect. Two children disappear in the hills overnight and though they return the next morning...they are different. Part revenge thriller, part supernatural tome; the film revels in both roles leading to a satisfying conclusion. Well directed and edited with a good lead turn by Laura Caro.
