Synopsis

Gioconda Martínez, a well-remembered comedic television actress, decides to return to her hometown to stage a play about the conquest of Chile, hoping to regain the artistic recognition she believed she had lost—but never truly had.

Our take

Bernardo Quesney’s biting satire paints a droll picture of a Chilean cultural industry shaped by artists as fragile as they can be cruel. Amparo Noguera’s subtle turn as an actress trying to reinvent herself in the face of barefaced disbelief is the enticing enigma at the film’s black heart.
