One of the most nuanced contemporary war movies (doing what Danny Boyle was prevented from doing in Bond 25) of this decade. Nykvist is almost a silent actor in his gaze's ping pongs with Butler (outshining Oldman) giving a farewell performance for the books. His acting is all interior. All eyes and silences. Butler proves a valiant partenaire. And that claustrophobia of ice and despair of fear and bottled up dreams.
