Was a bit skeptical with this rendition of Zatoichi at first but impressed despite the lack of humor which is a delight in the Zatoichi series. Action sequences shot in wide shots but cuts on action for a closer look of blade ripping the flesh in slow motion.
It's the typical Japanese film. They take their time. Ichi doesn't talk much, more so she is blind. There's no element of surprise, nothing really stands out. I have to say, it's still a little over-the-top when it comes to villains. You can't even 'science' the stupidity of its characters' actions. I think audiences are tired of seeing that. Regardless, it's always fascinating to see a samurai film once in a while.
