Ratings & Reviews

  1. tube_screamer's rating of the film Iris

    Brilliant performances all round.

  2. Kevin Matthews's rating of the film Iris

Equal parts wonderful and utterly devastating. Superb acting, as expected, from all involved.

  3. Superfrog's rating of the film Iris

It is good, but the treatment of female liberation and multiple partners, assertiveness and academic life mixed in opposition to the main story of senility makes for a bit of a mess. What is it for, highlighting the difference ? It does not really needs to be, the situation speaks for itself. Making the film bearable using female nudity (which is well made)? Sure it works... Not convinced in the end, and traditional

  5. ajdehany's rating of the film Iris

    Shattering. Tremendously well edited.

  6. Christopher Scott's rating of the film Iris

While this film is ostensibly about Iris Murdoch, it seems she has been chosen more as a vehicle to make a film about Alzheimers than to properly explore her life. She is noted at one point in the film as the eminent writer of her time and yet all we get about her in this film is that she was a promiscuous free-spirit who died from Alzheimers. Excellent acting, sad strings, little about the writer Iris Murdoch.

  7. Tja's rating of the film Iris

When the life of the mind is the life, how do you manage the mind's collapse? Moving portrayal of dementia and its impact on those close to the sufferer. Broadbent and Dench in perfect harmony, with Winslet a close second. What's with all the swimming? Get a house-keeper.

  8. Lorna Singh's rating of the film Iris

A realistic portrayal of Alzheimer's disease, not just in Judi Dench's excellent performance but in the day to day problems of Iris and John. What is lacking is a sense of Iris Murdoch, the complex woman and what made her a great writer.

  9. Louise_Dietrich's rating of the film Iris

I wish there was more young Murdoch and Bayley.

10.'s rating of the film Iris

  11. Roscoe's rating of the film Iris

Tedious literary disease of the week soap opera. Even Kate Winslet and Jim Broadbent can't bring this to life.

  12. Stu Witmer's rating of the film Iris

Nicely acted (especially Hugh Bonneville) literary soaper.

  13. Minousch's rating of the film Iris

I don't see this movie as an accurate portrait of Alzheimer's disease.
