In "Jade," every cliche of the 90's erotic thriller gets tossed in a microwave and nuked till it's lukewarm. The film thrives on a trashy cynicism: women are sex-craved harlots in search of defilement and a man's worth is based solely on how much he can resist them. Of course, twenty years later the real reason to watch the film is William Friedkin's bravado, 10-minute car chase through the streets of San Francisco.
Stale mystery-thriller from Friedkin that has a very small amount of good scenes (the opening and the no-brakes in San Fran hills moment) but even its often-hyped extended car chase is a let down due to it not being as gripping or memorable as his career's other similar adrenal sequences. Ultimately, Jade's lukewarm in intensity, and could've had more of that as well as eroticism, tension, and suspense.
An erotic thriller that's never sexy or thrilling. The performances are uneven - David Caruso is stiff, Chazz Palminteri and Linda Fiorentino do what they can with the dopey dialogue. A predictably sleazy and cliche-ridden script by Joe Eszterhas fails to generate any suspense or drama. Just a bland, instantly forgettable effort not even worth watching for camp value.
Fiorentino smokes up the screen whenever she's on it. Sensual, damaged, brilliant. She's amazing when given a good script like the Last Seduction, but even with a flawed effort such as Jade, she still sets the house on fire.
One of Friedkin's weaker films, but not so bad if we compare it to most of the 'soft porn thrillers' of the 90's. Linda Fiorentino used to be a great femme fatale. Amazing car chase scene too.
