Ratings & Reviews

  1. FISCHER's rating of the film Jar City

  2. Dries's rating of the film Jar City

  3. Conrado's rating of the film Jar City

An intricate storyline in a very dark atmosphere. I must read the book that inspired the film.

  4. Armando's rating of the film Jar City

A grisly, grim crime story in the recent tradition of Scandinavian mysteries. Certainly superior to the average product thanks to its atmospheric settings and disturbing philosophical implications. It seems to evoke the spirit of an entire culture and spans several decades of Icelandic history. In this film, the vast barren landscapes shot from the sky mirror the deep solitude and destitution of its characters.

  5. Ashim Rai's rating of the film Jar City

Iceland is the perfect setting for this kind of whodunnit with the gloomy weather, the looming mountains and the vast vast landscape. The plot is well thought out and the main characters are developed well. The central theme of the movie that children suffer the sins of their parents is brought out well . However, it did became a tad predictable by the end . it.

  6. Gökhan Gök's rating of the film Jar City

Bir suç filmi atmosferi olarak başarılı olsa da hikaye örgüsünün vaat ettiği çarpıcı etkiye ulaştığını söyleyemeyeceğim.

  7. Ergun Kocabıyık's rating of the film Jar City

İzlemeye değer. Kendine has bir tarzı var.

  8. norkun's rating of the film Jar City

Kurgusu güzeldi ama gerilim, aksiyon kısıtlı. İzlanda filmi olması yeter :)

  9. Stefan Drees's rating of the film Jar City

Although I knew Arnaldur Indriðason's book I was totally absorbed in this atmospheric adaptation. I especially enjoyed the construction of the filmic narration and the use of dark, severe colours.

  10. dywan's rating of the film Jar City

  11. Andrea Derizio's rating of the film Jar City

Great scenery, good colours, but the plot is full of fetched characters that lack depth psycological. Laudable the macabre parallel between food and dead flesh, but little developed.

  12. @frassivan's rating of the film Jar City

Impeccable photography of landscapes and interiors. The plot unfortunately creaks being unable to unravel the characters tangle. Too many causal relationships and coincidences even for a limited and interconnected community as the Icelandic one. Lack of suspense for a thriller which ventures itself into a mild social commentary and insists on sensory counterpoint food / decomposition without really expressing them

  13. Iona's rating of the film Jar City

Well made film of the book. Bleak landscape and bleak characters.

  14. msmichel's rating of the film Jar City

Very good script by director Kormakur adaptated from the novel "Myrin". A murder mystery as much about genetics and family secrets as it is about police procedure. Ingvar Eggert Sigurasson aces as the detective in charge of the case who seems to become more personally affected as he digs deeper. Very stylish in execution and interesting the way it captures the sparseness of the towns and infrastructure.

  15. Paolo Simeone's rating of the film Jar City

Niente affatto male questo coso nerissimo islandese. Tanto disagio in un solo film.

  16. Stu Witmer's rating of the film Jar City

Fine production of Arnaldur Indriðason's policier set in the dark underside of Iceland that you don't see in the tourist brochures. Excellent script, written by director Baltasar Kormákur, trims nonessential characters and action without losing the story. Great casting. Unfortunately the casting director is not credited.

  17. Arcanus's rating of the film Jar City

Rather Good. I have read some of the books in the series this is based on. Bleaker than bleak. I bet the Iceland Tourist Board would like to ban this film - it paints a terrible picture of Iceland.

  18. lucasnegrao's rating of the film Jar City

it's an ok movie. i dont really like how everyone seems to know everything but it has a good mood.

  19. Sergey Klimov's rating of the film Jar City

Nice story. Pretty depressing context. Liked the film better than the books.

  20. Christopher R. Smith's rating of the film Jar City

Moody crime thriller from Iceland is a stylish and satisfying detective story. A tight plot, strong performances, and a dense atmosphere with some bleak, chilly location photography make it a strong genre effort. As far as Scandinavian crime thrillers go, this one is far superior to that ‘Girl with the Dragon Tattoo’ series that’s getting so much attention right now.

  21. jannicke's rating of the film Jar City

has some extremely charming moments, but also oh - some terribly bad ones. it is like kormakur is overicelandifying things a bit. liked the story though.
