"Jigsaw" is a excellent police procedure film, set in and around 1960's Brighton. It literally follows around two detectives, as they piece together the clues to the brutal murder of a woman.Filmed in glorious black and white widescreen by the underrated film director Val Guest.Who also gave us the classic British Noir "Hell Is A City"(1960) and the thought provoking SciFi "The Day The Earth Caught Fire" (1961).
Brighton was once a watchword for seedy goings-on & this efficiently-told murder mystery gives us a glimpse of England's formerly shabby south coast. Changing values & gentrification have swept that away but this police drama still stands up to scrutiny. The writing is the standout with strong character development & sharp pivotal scenes as the story unfolds. It's all executed with flair & deserves a wider audience
