France, 2011

Justine, a.k.a. Junior, is a 13-year-old tomboy with pimples and her own brand of humor. She’s just a tad misogynous. After being diagnosed with stomach flu, Junior’s body undergoes a bizarre metamorphosis.

What are people saying?

  • Henri de Corinth's rating of the film Junior

Slightly better than Raw but Denis and De Van (and Smoczynska now too) covered all this before and better -and without relying on the tiresome ADHD music video 'horror comedy' aesthetic. Ducournau is not only the proverbial day late and dollar short, she like her protagonists has some growing up to do.

  • Pipim's rating of the film Junior

Comme Grave, le film m'a poursuivi après que je l'ai vu. On a vraiment envie que ça dure, mais le format du court métrage pour Julia Ducournau permet d'être très efficace et moins ambiguë. Efficace!

  • HenriqueA's rating of the film Junior

While I patiently await a chance to watch Ducournau's insensed "Raw", I've had a great time watching her preceding short film that already shows her fully formed skills as a storyteller and visual artist (with the help of a great, great protagonist in Garance Marillier). Although it ends up feeling like something is missing in this coming-of-body story, it is a nonetheless great way to spend 22 minutes of your time.
