What are people saying?

  • francisca bacon's rating of the film L'homme à l'Hispano

For all it's worth, Duvivier is sensitive to wider 20s trends we glimpse via a tribal masks panoply in one scene: in the 1920s, France witnessed a remarkable expansion of ethnographic literature w/ many artists of the day seeking decisive inspiration in 'primitive' artefacts and displaying an almost scholarly documeted eclecticism - Masson, Giacometti, Brauner. The film eschews tribal attachment to its native society
