Icelandic director Baldvin Zophoníasson’s intriguing, multiple-narrative drama follows three people — a struggling single mother, a former athlete trying to scale the corporate ladder, and a once-acclaimed author turned full-time drunk — whose lives intersect in surprising ways.

Catastrophies of the past, present and future intertwine in this strong Icelandic drama. The economic crisis is anticipated, the personal crises unfold little by little, and whereas some characters get past them, others are just starting to sink in. Strong characters, especially the young girl Eik but also the poet Móri whose relationship is one of the most touching I’ve seen lately on the silver screen.
