Meh, I get what Ferreri was going for here and I wanted to like it, but even with Mastroianni couldnt save it. Although the thought of having Deneuve as a pet is intriguing to my male ego... 2 stars, not much to see here.
As a reclusive artist, I have never connected so much with a film on such a personal level in my life. I have gone from introspective understanding to fits of laughter and fathomless emotional depths.I truly love this film.
I’ll admit it’s not the best I’ve ever seen, but the subject matter speaks to me on a level I haven’t experienced in countless years.
Almost stopped watching because Deneuve's character is SO annoying. But about half an hour in, the movie flipped for me. True, it banks a lot of Mastroianni's charisma and her beauty. But I found it an unsentimental study of people who, mostly by accident, forge a relationship in which, instead of judging the other's needs, they simply accept each other. Grapelli's lilting violin lends lovely background music.
