I’d love to see a double feature of this & Guru Dut’s Pyaasa. I’m curious what reflections it would inspire. I loved the end with Oum Kulthum and Mitra, especially Mitra’s honesty and courage. I don’t feel like I can fairly rate this. 80% of it was cultural nuance I don’t remotely grasp. I liked the formal and conceptual dimensions that were kept accessible, but were taken far enough to keep moving out in the mind.
Captivating Film that does an amazing job of a story within a story. This film will introduce many to Oum Kulthum's beautiful music as well as inspire Woman to pursue there dreams regardless of obstacles such as Sexism. A must see this summer.
