'Loose Cannons' aspires to be both a wacky and irresistible comedy of gay liberation (along the lines of 'La Cage aux Folles') and also a serious study of a monied family's hopes, desires and betrayals. But the humour is ingratiating and trite and the 'serious' drama has all the dignity and depth of an Italian "Dallas' or 'Dynasty'. At best this is a slightly kitsch and mildly irritating, if inoffensive, diversion.
