Most admirable for being both horribly sad and oddly hilarious at the drop of a dime. Feels like somewhere between Linklater and Hartley, being fascinated with average American misery but not too lofty.
A truly groundbreaking performance by Philip Seymour Hoffman. As he always is. It is just too bad that the film is not as great. It is very funny, sad and original though. As far back as I can remember, I have never seen a film in which a guy copes with his wife's suicide by getting addicted to sniffing gas. Fairly original. 3.5 stars.
