A film of mixed merits that ultimately makes an impact and compensates for flaws. The latter include some weakly constructed characters in terms of psychology and an uduly cacophonous domestic milieu. Yet Teles is excellent and the devotion of a mother humane, convincing and free of maudlin elements. Cinematically it has some good frames and the finale is impressive in terms of aural, visual and dramatic resolution.
Actually really enjoyed this. Unassumingly funny, moving, slightly crazy... And the mother is amazing, the reason I'm giving this 4 instead of 3.5*. A very pleasant time at the cinema, exactly what I needed.
