Synopsis

David Lynch was among 40 international directors asked to make a short film using the original Cinematographe invented by the Lumière Brothers, working under conditions similar to those of 1895.

Our take

Made under a series of obstructions—only three takes allowed, no artificial light, and no cuts—designed to simulate film production in 1895, Lumière is a bite-sized, Lynchian marvel. So ambitious and effective was the specially-designed set that Lynch and his team were accused of cheating!
