What are people saying?

  • Roscoe's rating of the film Man of Steel

Irredeemable filth -- it takes a Christopher Nolan to have Superman's earthly father suggest that young Clark Kent should let a schoolbus full of kids drown rather than reveal his superpowers, but it takes a Zack Snyder to encase General Zod inside a fullbody metallic dildo before sending him into the Phantom Zone. And it takes both of them to grossly exploit 9/11 imagery with all those collapsing skyscrapers.

  • J. O.'s rating of the film Man of Steel

As expected from Snyder, this is all sizzle no steak. It is grandiose and unnecessarily long - a mish-mash of some truly gorgeous visuals with horribly fast-paced CGI-constructed boredom. The chap playing Superman was a lively choice, but Lois and Zod's characters were underdeveloped (surprising, considering the film's length). In short, Snyder wasted a lot of potential this film had. Also, why so many lens flares?

  • Zach Closs's rating of the film Man of Steel

Flawed, but damn, if it doesn't get the soul of the hero just right. Superman's (singular) struggle is deciding whether or not humanity is worth the ostracism and cruelty they subject him to -- this is the first film to adequately explore that idea.

  • Harry Rossi's rating of the film Man of Steel

Werner Herzog said of the jungle: "I love it... But I love it against my better judgment." That's kinda how I feel about "Man of Steel". I completely understand the hate, but there was something about it that really compelled me and I don't quite know why. The entire film was unsubtle, bloated and felt as if it might implode at any moment. I felt beat into submission, and that's kinda why I liked it. 4 stars.

  • Marcus Killerby's rating of the film Man of Steel

It takes a special kind of bad director to screw up a comic book movie, as Snyder proves with Man Of Steel. Given that a comic book is essentially a script with story-boards, all the work has been done for you and you just need to film it. There's an endless number of great stories to choose from too. Snyder does not understand that comic books (at their best) are not reliant on endless violence...

  • Michael Voegtlin's rating of the film Man of Steel

A neverending exposition: I was flabbergasted and bored beyond belief. This movie even succeded in bringing down Diane Lane and Amy Adams with it, actresses who usually overcome the silliness of the material, they're given. In retrospect it even ennobled Singer's "Superman Returns", which in itself is not an especially imaginative movie after all. And is there any reasonable explanation, why on earth it was in 3D?

  • Ghostman's rating of the film Man of Steel

A film with no wit, heart, humor, romance, or anything real at all. A lifeless superhero movie where the hero lets hundreds of thousands die and we're still suppose to think he's heroic. Snyder and Nolan clearly don't give a shit about superman. This movie is fucked.

  • Kyle Lewis's rating of the film Man of Steel

After the god awful mess that was Iron Man 3 my expectations for another superhero extravaganza was rock FUCKING bottom. Congratulations Snyder and co. you failed to even meet the alreadly low bar set for this summer. Granted the first half was so-so with the flashback structure working well. But all good will is lost with the overkill of the 90 minute finale. Cavill, Adams, Costner, and lane all solid. Dump Snyder!!
