Energetic adaptation of Roald Dahl's classic children's story. The over-the-top wackiness is cloying at times, and a few moments, particularly the ending, dip into sentimentality, but this is supposed to be a kid's movie after all. But the imagination of Dahl's original story shines through, and there are some spot-on performances, especially a classic turn by Pam Ferris as the odious villain.
the sexual tension and stare-off between matilda and miss honey when she founds out the child's a genius is both disconcerting and a feeling i only hope to feel one day. call me cuckoo but adopted mother my ass
