Thanks to Jason Statham and his co-star Ben Foster, 2011's "The Mechanic" remake was a respectable effort that managed not to tarnish the legacy of Charles Bronson's underrated original. The sequel doesn't even appear to take place in the same universe as the first film, and plays out more like an R-rated spin on a Roger Moore Bond lark. In a post-"John Wick" world, this kind of shlock just doesn't rate anymore.
Gansel becomes another international director who sells his soul to the action franchise world with this lame Jason Statham vehicle. 'Mechanic: Resurrection' stands as a sequel that no one was clamoring for and winds up a pretty lame duck. The pool sequence is impressive but hey we saw that in the trailer.
Even though story is discounted for action in this follow-up it is still a very engaging film that keeps the action coming and Jason Statham's badassery knows no bounds. Jessica Alba and Tommy Lee Jones also offer up some interesting supporting roles too. It's not life changing but it is damn entertaining.
