One of my favorite films at the ND/NF this year, Virgil Vernier’s Mercuriales (2014), is a metaphysical, bloodless, vampiric tale, perfectly suited to our soulless capitalist age… Vernier does a splendid job of recasting Paris as a place of new, confused cultural and geographical markers, reimagining his city through the eyes of his estranged protagonists.
