"Indie" cinema # 6: the composition. From real(ity) elements, it's inscribed a cinematographic mythology diluted by a composite structure that equals every component, differentiating it: science fiction, realism, fantastic - according to Rivette - and the socio-economic critique are joined in a film that unveils it transfiguring them, forming a unique organic texture. Scientific realism, "fictions du réel".
Vernier takes an interesting approach which has completely different style in time and space with pretentious music in 80's cheap horror, two girls prowling around Europe (shades of Rivette), social critique like terror of terrorism (twin buildings' definitely 9.11 motive)/ immigration / prejudice against religion. I thought of "History of Fear" & "Neighboring Sounds". Invisible war spreads all over the world.
It's sort of interesting to watch these two young women wander around the building and interact with others, even if it doesn't lead anywhere concrete narratively. This would be a really enjoyable film if it had a bit more focus. 3.5/5.
