Daniel is a shy boy, often lost in his drawings. Théo is a cool, inventive kid who arrives at school in the middle of the year. The two quickly become best friends. Wanting to escape their families over the summer, the duo fashion a car out of a lawnmower and set off for an adventure through France.

Funneling his flair for giddy invention into a buddy story, dreamer-director Michel Gondry explores the escapades of boyhood. Starring Audrey Tautou as one of the misfits’ mothers, this playful film ultimately belongs to its precocious leads, finding their feet with scampering, mischievous delight.
