As usual : a world of anarchy. The Marx brothers are to comedy what punk has been to music. Gags in rythm, even funny music, it is always high tempo. Woody Allen picked their pockets. Groucho got to be my favourite though.
Yes, it's pretty much "The Marx Bros on a Boat" in terms of story, but this is a Marx Brothers film for pete's sake! Can't expect character development and audience-tested punchlines. The Brothers fling jokes at the audience without stopping to see which ones connect, which is part of the appeal. And while Groucho & Chico do some remarkable stuff, Harpo steals the show from start to finish.
