Parenthood is such a beautiful and delicate thing. Amazing portrait of the mind of a 13-year-old outcast who dances to Miguel's "Pussy Is Mine" in the bedroom.
Another victim of the Sundance hype machine. The general rule is: if the Park Utah crowds love it,then it must to be mediocre. Quod Erat Demonstrandum.
In short, it's a story I've seen many times before; and it's only executed in a decent way. It's non-discernible as a coming-of-age story in comparison to anything else I've seen. It lacked something that motivated me to care; on the plus side, the acting wasn't bad and it had its funny moments.
Charming enough, many of Morris' conversations with his Dad are funny and insightful, in particular the final conversation in the car.
However, the low production quality (shot on video undoubtedly due to budget constraints) doesn't do much to lift a familiar plot. There's only so much you can do with 13-year-old in the lead. It's going to be a coming-of-ager, no matter how many dirty words are put into the dialogue.
