Misogyny, Racism & Homophobia: the tri-factor of contemporary American comedy. The cat short/sketch was reaaally disturbing. One star for the Hugh Jackman/Kate Winslet short. Ratner unwittingly tapped into one amazing franchise: "Leprechaun Revenge".
Given the number of huge (and some very talented) names attached to this thing I actually think there may be some more intelligence and irony than a lot of people are giving it credit for (I have a theory that this film may just be a huge in joke from the people involved as a fuck you to the movie industry) but that being said the simple fact is the sketches are simply funny or unfunny and most of them are unfunny.
2 1/2 out of 5 stars. While I'll agree that Movie 43 isn't a particularly good or even consistently funny one, anyone who thinks this is the worst movie ever or has a king-sized bug up their ass and seriously needs to get over themselves. The skits are either hysterical or awful. Speaking of awful, once Common showed up it went straight downhill. That guy's awful.
This film should sweep the Razzie Awards. Its storylines and jokes are poorly executed, and the actors who are in it could not stoop down any lower. It makes me wish that the humor of Laurel and Hardy, The Marx Brothers, Mel Brooks, Monty Python among others would return to mainstream culture.
With no intention of ever watching this, and then being forcibly subjected to it, I was surprised at how much of it I found to be genuinely funny. It feels as though the involvement of all the big names (both behind and in front of the camera) makes this feel like a bit of a troll, or, a joke about the industry - maybe even making fun of this new "anthology film" craze? But maybe not. It's too dumb to care about.
