if this film works at all it's because of Hackman and the seemingly effortless, grounded authenticity he brings to every role. I have not seen the original film this is based on so I really have nothing to compare it to. I do recall being caught up in the suspense and plot mechanics the first time I saw it. Hyams was always a craftsman rather than an artist and this potboiler plays to those strengths.
