As unimaginable as it sounds, the comedic equivalent to 'The Act of Killing' in its nimble-footed dance with and against documentary conventions, eschewing and exploiting Bill Nichols' doc modes without missing a beat. The only new release I've seen this year to rival 'Twin Peaks: The Return', personally speaking. I've never felt so many different emotions from a piece of television. Mesmerising, silly & haunting. <3
It is not often, I tune in to catch a 85 minute season finale of a comedy central docu-comedy, but the thought of missing this masterwork of the small screen would most certainly put a huge damper on my yearly best-of accounting. This is truly, the best TV, and film for that matter, have to offer and should not be missed!
Nathan Fielder has one of the greatest shows on TV right now. The season finale is a cinematic 2 hour documentary on a recurring character named Bill (a Bill Gates impersonator) who is searching for the woman he once loved many years ago. Funny, heartfelt, and entirely engrossing; Finding Frances earns its place as one of the best films of the year and shows us a side of Nathan we haven't seen.
