NUDE CABOOSE

Directed by Guy Maddin
Canada, 2006
Short, Avant-Garde

Synopsis

A jovial shirtless man attempts to rouse a contingent of lethargic dancers to life in Nude Caboose. His highjinks really get the deadbeats bustin’ out until something unusual catches his eye. Dance floor seduction distilled into a fateful moment.

Our take

Another wonderful oddity from Guy Maddin, Nude Caboose quizzically chases its own tail, like an ouroboros. A semi-nude conga line is led by one particularly gregarious man—a peculiar scene rendered in a VHS/CRT aesthetic—and nicely paired with gloriously funky music. Watch it and you’ll understand.
