Kilani's aesthetic stake in the drama is striking; many Bressonian/Antonioniesque visual/auditory abstractions stabilized by documentary pieces of information. And the genre business develops without any detectable irony. Felt a lot like Naruse: hopelessness is at the heart of the matter, but everything is imbued w/ energy. Perhaps the conspiratorial elements feel a bit overused, but whatever, this is a masterpiece.
