More like 3 1/2. The leads might be effortlessly charming, but they're thoroughly imperfect nonetheless, and we get the sense they're genuinely trying their best. There's a groundedness usually lacking in these films. The final scene perfectly encapsulates the film's philosophy: a subversion of rom-com and single mom/single dad tropes, and that ending shot is just all kinds of satisfying.
This is a perfect Rom Com and delivers everything and more to what the genre should be about! A film that perfectly features New York City as a character, not just a location. Clooney And Pheiffer's chemistry is almost neo-Hanks/Ryan. The film even references The Wizard of Oz which makes the optimism turn satirical/pessimistic, almost meta in its narrative. Perfect film, also highly recommended as a hang over cure!
Not exactly a great film but I'm giving it 4 stars because of how it made me feel. It's a typically lighthearted 90's romantic comedy with George Clooney at his most charming. A good movie to watch on a lazy afternoon.
