Fucking amazing! The nastiest, weirdest "mainstream" horror film I've seen in a long time, inherently trashy and bizarre yet still beautifully acted and edited. Isabelle Fuhrman-as-Esther is an fucking icon.
Surprisingly, a very fun and stylish horror-thriller that understands its B-movie tropes and continually hits the mark. Sharply-crafted with a nice tense atmosphere and solid suspense. The ending does get a bit over the top, but it's grounded with a strong, authentic central performance by Vera Farmiga. A pleasant surprise, fans of stylish psycho-thrillers won't be disappointed.
Esther and the deaf kid are best aspects of this movie. The setup is complete bullshit, okay so you already have two kids, roll around in muthafuckin' Lexus SUV, live in a secluded mansion in the woods! Why the fuck would I have any sympathy for you at all???
Reminded me of Joseph Rubens films - "The Good Son" i particular. Suprisingly awesome horrorthriller with great acting and wonderful use of misé-en-scene to create the wildly different moods. Both funny, creepy, warm, icy and sleazy. A treat and four strong stars from me.
A sleazy "killer kid" film souped up with slick visuals, a few tantalizing post-modern flourishes, and two fabulous central performances, Jaume Collett-Serra's Orphan is surely one of the most underrated horror offerings of the early 2000s.
