What are people saying?

  • Nicholas Gregory's rating of the film Outlaws and Angels

A wild and fucked up modern anti-western that is raw and gritty looking akin to Peckinpah, as well as tonally rough-and-tumble with some arthouse flourishes, like its music during violent scenes and gorgeous photography. The well-developed characters, good character twists, and its lingering to draw out suspense and surprise shows it has more old-fashioned patience than most modern films. Darkly humorous, too.

  • Mcpeer's rating of the film Outlaws and Angels

More Peckinpah than Tarantino, Outlaws and Angeles is an ultra-violent, morally bankrupt thriller. With a great cast beautifully photographed on film, it was a pleasure seeing this film presented in 35mm at Sundance, the only film in two years to do so. Format matters and Mollner's film is a worthy throwback to the gritty western genre. Keep your eyes out for Francesca Eastwood, making her father proud with this one.
