When Cooper walks through the prison bars into the dream landscape to meet his love, I am transported. The concept may be slightly sickening, but there is a surreal element to the way it is handled. Bunuel loved this film.
I think they took a great premise and made an incredibly flawed film. First of all, the acting by Cooper was atrocious. He was way too stiff and completely miscast for a film as otherworldly and ethereal as this one. I also thought there were issues with the screenplay and direction which made the film feel slightly "clunky" at times. I really don’t understand why this movie is held in such high regard.
