First watch the original scene this was made from, the opening scene from Possessed (1931) w Joan Crawford (it's on You Tube), then this freaked-out version. Warning: if you have photo-sensitive seizures, you may want to skip this.
Again, the random effect: when exploring some of the exhibitions I saw in London in 2014, i rediscover this film which was one of the most pleasant surprises of that stay, along with the work of the Japanese artist Noda Tetsuya and the Crystal Palace Park.
The train works perfectly as a metaphor, you got the movement, the identification, the voyeurism. Joan Crawford (excerpt from "Possessed", Clarence Brown, 1931) moves and is being moved at the same time. Cinema is an out-of-the-body experience. Fantastic avant-garde work.
