Enjoyable and faithful Americanized remake of 'REC' that of course pales to the original but provides solid entertainment and dread. Jennifer Carpenter is quite good in the early sections before auditioning for 'scream queen' throughout the second half. Watching again nearly ten years after release found the film serviceable and fun.
Unlike Jaume Balagueró, I feel grateful to (the) Dowdle(s) for avoiding the religious themes, an unnecessary arc in a remake that was then uncertain to yield a single sequel. Extra kudos for not setting the end credits to a crassly predictable loud guitar tune that nearly annihilated the lasting feeling of the original's terrific conclusion.
