Synopsis

This movie is a portrait of the genius inventor of movie cameras Beauviala and his firm Aaton. Two thieves, Peneglote and Polylope, are commissioned to steal the Penelope, the latest Aaton camera. We follow their quest closely, as they speak an imaginary language and accumulate Freudian slips.

Our take

Based on an unfinished script by Luc Moullet, this wildly innovative hybrid doc explores the infamous inventor of Aaton movie cameras, so beloved of the Nouvelle Vague. Director Isabelle Prim uses this as a jumping-off point for exploring the wonders of cinematic innovation from analogue to digital.
