This portmanteau film explores the highs and lows of a trio of twenty-something’s love affairs in the French capital, combining all those themes cherished by Rohmer aficionados: seduction, elegant language, and love for a city called Paris.
This film is not currently playing on MUBI but 30 other great films are. See what’s now showing
big stars for: market scene's colours and vibrance; subtlety of the whispered words that became public and ridiculous by the view of the 3star hotel; the museum chase that mirrors the exciting experience of being a tourist in a foreign museum.
Rohmer plays with love and coincidence in this pleasant triptych. The first segment is my favourite, but the painter in the third piece is also worth appreciating. There's a sort of intellectualized stupidity that runs rampant through the characterization of the men in these stories, which makes for wryly funny viewing.
