Much as I love Wellman, comedy is not his forte. This one, which portrays the American justice system as a ghoulish farce and American journalists as carrion dogs, doesn't lack bite - it just isn't very funny.
Kind of hit-and-miss. Seems like the filmmakers weren't really sure what elements worked and what didn't, so just threw everything in. The editing's a little bit off, too, with many shots lingering awkwardly a moment or two too long before cutting away.
